Floral Arrangements and Funerals: The Hidden Meanings of Flower Types

For my mother's funeral, my sister and I spent a lot of time thinking about flowers for her funeral. We wanted beautiful, colorful flowers that reflected upon her energetic spirit and her love of bright, bold color. However, when we began to plan out her funeral with the funeral director, we were surprised to learn that different types of flowers had different meanings. Based on their meanings, some were appropriate for a funeral, and others were not. We had no idea about this, but I instantly became fascinated with the topic. I created this website to help educate others about the meanings of flowers and which are appropriate for funerals.

Deciding On A Cemetery Plot

Most people do not wish to think about death, however, making preparations in where you wish to be buried can save your family a lot of grief should you pass away. They would not need to wonder if they are placing your body in a spot you would have liked, and they will not need to take on the financial burden associated with purchasing a plot right away. Here are some considerations to take into account when getting ready to search for your permanent resting place.

Take A Physical Tour

Even if you are sure about which cemetery you would like to be buried in, it is a good idea to take a walk through in your spare time to decide on which portion of the property you would like to be buried. Cemeteries often have different price ranges available depending on the terrain and aesthetics available within the property. Take into consideration the walk your family members and friends would need to take from their vehicle to your plot when making your decision.

Find A Peaceful Spot

Sit down in the area where you feel you would like to be buried, and close your eyes so you have no distractions as you listen. If you feel at peace, and there are no annoying sounds in the area, you may wish to use this spot for your plot. If you feel uneasy or there is too much traffic or activity, your family may feel anxious in this area when they come to visit you after you pass away.

Get A Decent Price

When searching for a cemetery plot, the pricing can be a determining factor in where you decide to be buried. Do not give in to a cheap price just to have an area reserved. Your spot should be selected to fit your personality and it may take a while to find a spot you feel comfortable with. When you have an idea which cemetery you may wish to use, call to ask about price options.

If tight finances come into play, you can shop around with other cemeteries or ask to be put on a waiting list  to purchase a pre-used plot. These are spots that were previously reserved where the owner had decided to back out due to financial trouble or change of mind. Since the plot was already reserved, the cemetery had already received payments on the area, making it a less expensive choice to consider.

Place It In Writing

Let your immediate family or friends know what your intentions are regarding your funeral and burial. Leave the address to the cemetery with them in a written form so they can make contact with the owner should the need arise. Make sure your wishes are documented in your last will and testament as well. Address any concerns or questions about the process with a funeral home company like Memorial Mortuaries.
